A technician from Bob’s Carpet Care will pick up your rug from your home or business. He will inspect your rug to determine which methods of cleaning should be used, this depends on the type of rug you have and its condition. The technician will create a “prescription” or cleaning strategy which will clean your rug effectively. He will inform you of the expected results so there will be no surprises.
Years ago, the Eureka Company determined that a 9 x 12 rug could have 87 pounds of hidden dirt inside it! Woven rugs and hand-knotted rugs can retain pounds and pounds of dried soil and dirt. We make use of different methods to “dust” the rugs at the front and at the back. A pile lifter machine and various vacuum attachments may be used to remove any dry soil residues. Removal of hidden dirt is a crucial step in rug, fabric and textile cleaning.
Depending on the type of dirt on your rug, and the type of rug you have, it may be necessary to pre-treated the rug to emulsify (break down) remaining soil and dirt.
If we find any spots which appear to be hard to clean, they will be pre-treated with special solutions to maximize the cleaning efficiency. At this time, the fringe is also pre-treated so that it can be cleaned well.
Most fine rugs are cleaned with a special Oriental Rug Shampoo. This shampoo is designed to clean rugs effectively yet protect the integrity of the natural fibers in your rug.
Your rug is then further washed and rinsed. Depending no the type of rug it is, it may involve an extraction equipment; or it may be placed in a wash pit made especially for the cleaning of rugs.
After the dirt and soil is removed from your rug, it is hung to dry or dried flat. Our drying process is done in a controlled environment to minimize shrinking.
When the rug is dry, it is carefully combed and finished with soft groomers.
Before release and delivery, a qualified rug cleaning expert will inspection your rug to ensure that your rug has received excellent quality cleaning.
How to Care for your Oriental Rug and Carpets
- Rotation – In general, your rugs should be rotated once a year. In high traffic areas, rotate the rugs every 6 months. In very low traffic area, the rugs can be rotated once every 2 years.
- Vacuuming – Carpets and rugs should be vacuumed on a regular basis to keep them clean. Removing the soil also minimizes damage to the rug’s fibers. No not vacuum the fringe with a beater bar! Instead, use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
- Padding – It is recommended to use a quality pad under the rug to protect it from dirt, wear and slippage.
Clean up Spots and Spills Immediately
When there is an accident, immediately clean up spills and spots before they set.
- Use a cloth that is clean and absorbent to blot off excess liquid. Do not scrub or rub the stain.
- Use a solution of mild-detergent and white-vinegar to spot clean the dirty spot. Avoid getting the carpet or rug too wet.
- Use water with a small amount of vinegar rinse the affected area. Again, do not over wet.
- Continue to blot away the moisture until it is as dry as possible.
- Let the rug or carpet air dry. If you are in a rush, you can use a fan or a hair dryer (on cool setting) to decrease dry time.
