We will inspect and study your fine rug to understand its qualities and determine how we clean it effectively. We will propose a cleaning method and inform you of the expected results. Bob’s Carpet Care will go to your home or business to pick up the rug to be cleaned.

A few years back, the Eureka Company established that a 9 x 12 rug could carry 87 pounds of dirt.  This is not surprising since hand-knotted and woven rugs can effectively hide soil and dirt.  We utilize different strategies to “dust” the front and back if the rug.  Special vacuum attachments and a “pile lifter” may be used to remove dried soil and dirt. Removal of encrusted dirt and soil is probably one of the most important step in cleaning quality fabrics and textiles.

Sometimes it is necessary for a rug to be pre-treated to emulsify soil and dirt. Whether or not your rug will be pre-treated will depend on the type of soil present and the type of rug you have.

The fringe is pre-treated to achieve maximum cleaning and stain removal. Difficult to clean spots will be pre-treated with special solutions to get the best clean possible.

A special Oriental Rug Shampoo is used to clean most rugs.  It is designed to protect your rug’s natural fibers and yet have effective cleaning power.

Depending on the type of rug you have, it can be washed and rinsed on both sides with extraction equipment.  Or, it can be placed in a wash pit made especially for rug cleaning and thoroughly washed and rinsed.

After the dirt, soil, and shampoo is rinsed away, the rug is hung to dry or dried flat.  This is done in a controlled environment and done property to avoid shrinking.

Once the rug is completely dry, it is combed and finished with specially designed “soft groomers”.

One last step: our trained staff performs a final inspection before your rug is approved for release and delivery.

Maintaining your Oriental Rug and Carpets

  • Rotation – To ensure even wear, rotate your rugs at least once a year. High traffic area rugs should be rotated every 6 months. Low traffic area rugs can be rotate as little as once every 2 years.
  • Vacuuming – Fine, Oriental and area rugs should be vacuumed on a regular basis to minimize dirt and restore the rug’s fibers.  You should not vacuum the fringe with a beater bar.  Instead, use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
  • Padding – You should have a quality pad under the rug to protect it from dirt, wear and slippage.

Spots and Spills: What to Do.

Always move quickly when there is a spill: clean up spills and spots before they set.

  1. First, excess liquid is removed by blotting with a clean absorbent material. Do not scrub or brush the stain.
  2. Clean the spot/spill with a mild-detergent, white-vinegar water solution Do not make it too wet.
  3. Water and a small amount of vinegar is used to thoroughly rinse the area. Do not wet the rug’s backing.
  4. Continue to blot with a clean absorbent material until almost all of the liquid and moisture is removed.
  5. Let the rug air dry. You may use a hair dryer set to “cool”, or a fan to shorten the drying time.
  6. Please contact us if the stain persists.
